About a nanosecond after Andre got called up to AA, we set out to see him at his new home field in Erie, PA. It’s not a long drive from Cincinnati and I hadn’t been to Erie in years so I was looking forward to our trip. I lived on the east side of Cleveland for a couple of years (Chagrin Falls) so it was nice to see a familiar area. Geneva and Geneva-on-the-Lake are sweet little towns on Lake Erie, known for their antique stores and wineries. In high school I loved the boardwalk area of Geneva-on-the-Lake. I always tried in vain to win a stuffed animal from the carnies. My pitching needed some work. But the ice cream there was top notch!
Our first stop in Erie was Presque Isle State Park, billed as “Pennsylvania’s only sea shore.” The biking and hiking trails are very clean and peaceful. My girls loved the beach area and we found a bunch of “cool looking” shells. We forgot our sunscreen and drinks so a trip to the snack shop got us everything we needed. The beach was crowded with lively music going. A great time was had by all!
We stayed at the Sheraton Erie Bayfront Hotel, right on the water. As we unpacked, one of my daughters yelled, “Mom, there’s a pirate out there! In a dingy!!”
Little known fact: I love pirates. Love the jokes, the eye patch, bring me a parrot and I become one.
Sure enough, a pirate in a dingy glides by our room. A minute later, an entire pirate ship looms into view and proceeds to FIRE A FAKE CANNON!
That settles it. I’ll have to skip the Seawolves game this evening. Kidding. Kinda.
We met up with my inlaws at the hotel’s outdoor tiki bar for a quick drink before the game. Lots of TVs on and a great view of the pirate ships. Next time in Erie I will definitely take a pirate ship ride and update this post on its sure-to-be-amazingness!
The Seawolves stadium is located right downtown and, for a AA stadium, it was a little smaller than I thought it would be. The food, drink and dessert options were everything we hoped they would be. And, as an added bonus, it was fireworks night. You can’t go wrong with a show in the sky after a ball game.
After grabbing a morning coffee, we headed on a walk around the hotel and lake shore. There’s a nice path to follow and it’s wonderful to take the water in at a quiet hour. We saw a few sail boats setting out and a few folks fishing. Can’t beat lake life!
Onto our next adventure…
